People Counting Cameras

With Martyn's Law to be coming into force in April 2027, a popular solution that has been used across the UK is the use of cameras with people counting technology. These cameras use AI video analytics to track foot traffic, occupancy and the flow of people in real time. The cameras use deep-learning algorithms to distinguish humans from objects and count them as they cross designated virtual lines or zones, making them effective for tracking how many individuals are in the site at one given time.

This can also be useful for venues in advance of the laws coming into force, as a way of getting an idea of what tier their site may fall into. This allows for appropriate measures to be taken before Martyn's Law becomes legally binding in 2027.

Turnstiles & Access Terminals

A secure site needs effective and accurate methods of managing who can enter the building. That's where turnstiles and access terminals come in. An access terminal can accurately read a person's facial features using an advanced camera, which can then be compared against stored data to accurately verify whether a person is authorised to enter the building. This is especially useful for large or high-risk private sites, such as data centers, government or public sector buildings or high-value businesses.

As well as facial recognition, the terminals may use thermal detection, card or fingerprint readers or password storage to offer multiple secure ways for an authorised individual to enter the site or building. Terminals can be integrated with smart turnstiles, which would likely feature people counting technology, alarm triggering for unathorised access attempts and failsafe procedures.

Auto-Tracking PTZ Cameras

For large and/or outdoor sites, including event venues that may host hundreds of people at a time, effective and smart security coverage is especially crucial for monitoring and safety purposes. This is where auto-tracking PTZs come in, which use AI to detect potential targets and adjust the pan, tilt and zoom to follow the path of the suspect. A PTZ with a long IR detection range can also detect potential targets from hundreds of meters away.

Therefore, for an optimal PTZ solution, you should choose a model that has a high IR detection range and maximum zoom level, advanced AI and wide, high-resolution coverage of an area. Emergency Lighting Solutions

One requirement of Martyn's Law is that a venue or building has multiple clear and accessible escape routes, and staff are trained on where the routes are and the procedures required in the event of an evacuation. Emergency Lighting plays an important role in maintaining illumination on exit points when main lighting systems fail, reducing confusion and the risk of panic in the event of an evacuation. This helps security, staff and the general public to identify their nearest escape routes.

Emergency Lighting comes in various different types, with the most visible example being Bulkheads and Exit Signs, which feature illuminated legend stickers displaying the internationally recognised Man In Door and Arrow symbols.
